At the 28th International Manufacturing, Machinery, Equipment, Materials and Services Exhibition held at JIExpo Kemayoran on December 6-9, 2017, Siemens presented the digital twin solution to help industries to virtually design, simulate, validate, and optimize a physical product, production process, or production performance. The digital thread connects information from the digital twin of the product, production process, and production performance to help industries deliver the best products to the market faster. Aerospace & Defense, Consumer Product & Retail, and Automotive are the mature industries in Indonesia that are ready to embrace the digital twin concepts. The digital twin of the product, production process, and production performance enable flexible manufacturing, reduce time to market and cost, improve quality, and increase productivity through all levels of a business organization. Siemens is also driving forward the expansion of its cloud-based, open IoT operating system MindSphere with the addition of new partnerships, interfaces, and apps. Customers in the industry traditionally are performing corrective action from the result of past data analysis. But there is a new trend toward predictive action using digital twin to simulate and optimize the process,” said Fransiskus Nugroho, Channel Sales Director PLM Software of PT Siemens Indonesia. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Indonesia showed that although the manufacturing sector outside of oil and gas contributed only 18% of Indonesian GDP in 2017, it is the biggest source of economic growth. The Manufacturing industry in the third quarter of 2017 registered 5.49 percent of growth above 5.06 percent of growth for overall GDP, led by Metal which grew 10.6 percent, Food and Beverages at 9.46 percent, Machinery and Equipment at 6.35 percent, and Automotive at 5.63 percent. Siemens believes the digital twin concepts can help manufacturing industries to produce components more efficiently and at the same time increase production quality as well as quantity. Thus, the digital twin concept can become the enabler for Indonesian industry to regain its status as the main driver of economy. During the exhibition, Siemens also showcases its Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal - the perfect gateway to automation in the Digital Enterprise and help companies on the path toward Industry 4.0. TIA Portal is more than an engineering framework from digital planning and integrated engineering to transparent operation and fully integrated device that provides customers with unrestricted access to our complete range of digitalized automation services. In short, it would help the customers to integrate all the systems needed in a manufacturing plant.

While there were numerous technologies and innovations demonstrated at Festo’s booth, the star of the show was BionicOpter and AirJelly, two technologies that showcases Festo’s vision of the future. “This is essential for our long-term reputation as a competent partner with a high level of problem-solving skills,” emphasises Dr.-Ing. Heinrich Frontzek, Head of Corporate Communication and Future Concepts. “What we need to do is simplify the challenges involved in production sequences and guarantee intuitive control of machines and plants. The projects from Festo’s Bionic Learning Network provide visonary approaches on how to do this,” Mr. Frontzek added. After bird flight had been deciphered with the SmartBird in 2011, the developers took on their next-biggest challenge: modelling the dragonfly at a technical level. The BionicOpter is an ultralight flying object. Just like its model in nature, the BionicOpter can fly in all directions and execute the most complicated flight manoeuvres. The principles of ultra-lightweight construction are applied throughout the flying object. With a wingspan of 63cm and a body length of 44cm, the model dragonfly weighs just 175 grams. The wings consist of a carbon-fibre frame and a thin foil covering. The intelligent kinematics correct any vibrations during flight and ensure flight stability. Meanwhile, Air is the element of the AirJelly. Rather than swimming through water like the AquaJelly, it glides through the air with the aid of its central electric drive and an intelligent, adaptive mechanical system. The remote-controlled AirJelly is kept in the air by its helium-filled ballonet. The AirJelly’s only energy source is the two lithium-ion-polymer batteries, to which the central electric drive is attached. This transmits its power to a bevel gear and then to eight spur gears, which drive the eight tentacles of the jellyfish via their respective cranks. Using a peristaltic movement to drive a balloon was previously unknown in the history of aviation. The AirJelly is the first indoor flying object to use such a peristaltic propulsion system. “This is where we demonstrate that, by learning from nature, we will be ready to apply more and more energy efficient, automation, solution for the industry,“ said Hartono Indra, Managing Director of PT Festo in Indonesia. Aside from the BionicOpter and AirJelly, Festo also demonstrated various other products such as the pneumatic proportional media valve VZQ, The stainless-steel cylinder CRDSNU, the electric cylinder ESBF in Clean Look, and The Clean Design valve terminal MPA-C, all of which offers specific solutions for industries. “It’s good to be here,“ Mr. Indra concluded. “To get together with the customers and also to introduce our new products, concept, spirit, passion. Time for the German tourism promotion to become more visible in Indonesia. Since 2015 EKONID has been supporting the German National Tourism Board (GNTB) in analyzing the market potential and relevant stakeholders. As part of the ASEAN Roadshow 2017 the first GNTB delegation came to Jakarta within the time period 18-19 October 2017. Other cities that were visited as part of the roadshow were Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The delegation comprised representatives from GNTB Germany and Singapore as well as companies and institutions representing the German Tourism industry: Activo Travel GmbH, Berlin Tourismus + Kongress GmbH, Düsseldorf Airport, Frankfurt Airport, KaiYuan Information & Business GmbH, Lufthansa and Maritim Hotels. In Jakarta EKONID organized a networking dinner and a Schengen-visa-workshop in cooperation with the German Embassy Jakarta. The networking dinner in the restaurant Plataran Menteng was attended by more than 30 representatives of the Indonesian outbound tourism industry. The evening was moderated by the Singapore-based GNTB representative. Since January 2017 GNTB has its own ASEAN representation in Singapore. For the next day EKONID organized a Schengen-visa-briefing in cooperation with the German Embassy. We would like to thank Mr. Gregor Fiedler, Head of Visa Section, for his time to brief the representatives of the Indonesian travel agencies and to be available for questions regarding issues the travel agents are faced with when it comes to the application for the Schengen visa. One major concern is the limited number of available visa interview slots. In this regards Mr. Fiedler convey very positive news. Starting mid of next year the German Embassy intends to involve a service agency in processing the visa applications. The additional support will enable the Embassy to process more visa applications, thus opening the doors for more Indonesian tourist in Germany.
With the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), as well as German partners from the Innovation Networks for Optical Technologies (OptecNet Deutschland e.V), German Healthcare Partnership (GHP), the German Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI), and Puchala International Markterschließung, EKONID will be hosting a hospital design and equipment business delegation on November 5-10, 2017. The six-day mission will take place in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali, within which two business forums will be organized separately in Jakarta on the 6th of November and in Surabaya on the 9th of November 2017. Apart from the business forums, the mission program will consist of B2B meetings, roundtable discussions with relevant local stakeholders and associations, and institution visits. It is expected that ten to twelve German companies, accompanied by the BMWi, will visit Indonesia. The delegation is expected to comprise of hospital management companies, equipment suppliers, consulting firms as well as architecture companies and institution. Currently, EKONID is preparing a market study on hospital design and equipment in Indonesia. The study is estimated to be final at the end of September 2017. On September 29, 2017 at Hotel Pullman Jakarta Indonesia, EKONID presented its new brand “ICCQ - Information and Certification Center for Qualification” as well as the concept of the ICCQ platform for business trainings incl. the ICCQ Trainer Pool to training providers and Heads of HR Departments of EKONID member and non-member companies of different sectors. EKONID Managing Director Jan Rönnfeld welcomed the participants and outlined the intention and initiative of the Chamber to connect the companies’ demand for tailor-made trainings to offers of qualified training providers. Inviting companies and trainers to share their individual ideas on the ICCQ platform with EKONID, Ms. Ute Brockmann, Deputy Managing Director and Head of EKONID’s Training and Education Department, informed about the current preparation of an annual ICCQ Training Calender containing business-related training offers on soft skills and technical knowledge. EKONID intends to publish the calender on a new separate ICCQ website incl. a booking tool for registration for the trainings. Only training providers quality-approved by EKONID for membership in the ICCQ Trainer Pool will be entitled to promote their training offers on the ICCQ Training Calender. EKONID invited four experts to the event’s panel composed of Mrs. Ester Tjiungwanara, Head of HR at PT. Mercedes-Benz Indonesia, Mr. Ignasius Sebayang, Head of HR at Heidelberg Indonesia, Ms. Cynthia Wihardja, General Manager of ActionCOACH South Jakarta and Mr. Nicolas Llovet, Senior Trainer of KPI Consultancy. The experts shared their views and experiences amongst others on HR development principles, the Indonesian training market as well as challenges for companies in analyzing training needs, selecting the appropriate trainer and following up on the trainings’ outcomes. The audience actively participated in the lively discussion on solutions for the further qualification of company staff. The panelists and the other participants expressed their high appreciation for the initiative of EKONID to provide a platform of business trainings based on the concrete thematic demand of companies. At the end of the event, Mr. Llovet complimented the good balance in the number of training providers on the one hand and trade and manufacturing companies on the other hand EKONID gathered for the event. “It resulted in some very interesting conversation and a really interesting panel... I think everyone got something out of this discussion, both the trainers and the users,” he said. Meanwhile, Mrs. Tjiungwana expressed her hope of seeing ICCQ grow as a platform. “This is a very good platform. I’m hoping very much that it’ll expand even more because, as a user, it’s always good for me to have even more information on the various trainings that are available out there. The same goes for training providers so they can find even more companies who are looking for those trainings that they provide,” she said.
