Sustainable projects for US$10.8 billion at the start

The announced projects are divided into four sectors: manufacturing (15 projects, US$3.6 billion), infrastructure (six projects, $3.4 billion), special economic zones (14 projects, $3.4 billion) and tourism (twelve projects, $400 million). Eleven of the projects are to be carried out in Sumatra, nine each in Java, Sulawesi, the Maluku islands and Papua. Six more are planned in Kalimantan and three in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara.

The preliminary feasibility studies have already been completed. The projects are to be marketed as part of the G20 summit in Bali in mid-November and abroad via the Indonesian embassies. The preliminary studies will be made available online and made available to investors with "serious interest".

Indonesia has been pushing towards a green and sustainable industry. Numerous initiatives have been started. However, the archipelago is still a difficult terrain in terms of infrastructure and manufacturing industry, and private investors are reluctant to invest in transport projects.

In industrial manufacturing, Indonesia is less industrialized than its ASEAN neighbors Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The country hopes to attract more foreign investors with its latest investment law, which was further liberalized in the spring of 2021.
