On Tuesday April 9, 2019, EKONID held the Business Forum 鈥淏iomass Utilization: Sustainable Energy Solutions from Residues from the Agricultural and Food-producing Industry鈥�. Around 100 participants, among them were German companies, attended this business delegation forum held in Ayana Midplaza Jakarta.
One of the attendees, Mr. Trois Dilisusendi from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, gave insights and comments regarding the current bioenergy situation in Indonesia, ranging from Indonesia鈥檚 potentials to aspects that Indonesia is still lacking:
"Indonesia has a comparative advantage of bioenergy production. We have a greater availability of land to produce various kinds of biomass. Based on our survey, we are blessed with huge potential that comes from Palm Oil, Corn, Cassava, Wood, Cow Dung, and MSW to generate electricity up to 32 GW. But, currently we have a total of 1.85 GW. This number is still far from the total potential that we have and also from our target of reaching 5.5 GW by 2025.
The government would like to improve the use of bioenergy by setting strategic plans based on projects through the most visible pathway. Together with PT PLN (Persero) as the State Electricity Company, we are trying to maximize the potentials that we have. The utilization of agro-industrial waste for electricity generation, especially on POME [Palm Oil Mill Effluent], for electricity is one our high priority to develop for the first phase.
For non-electricity sector, we already have Biogas Household Program that is currently running. We also have the Biodiesel Mandatory Program, which has reached the blending rate opf up to 20% (B20) and now we are preparing to develop until B30 in 2020. Those are just some of the government's efforts to complete 23% contribution of renewable energy by 2025.
We realize that we face various challenges, such as availability of funding to run this project. We realize that bioenergy projects, especially biomass for electricity, require substantial investment. But we have to bring fairness to the citizenship, so the electricity should be affordable.
We strongly support and appreciate this business forum. We believe Germany has greater experiences and capabilities and we can learn from them as best practice that can be conducted here in Indonesia. Through this event, we also invite investors from Germany to implement the technologies and investments in order to accelerate the bioenergy projects in Indonesia."
Done with cooperation with Renewable Academy (RENAC) and with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the biomass business forum highlights the current status of biomass utilization in Germany and Indonesia. It is held from 9-11 April, 2019, in Ayana Midplaza, Jakarta. Experts from Germany will be presenting their latest technologies and share their experiences in realizing bioenergy projects. Indonesian companies will have the opportunity to discuss possible projects during individual B2B meetings in their own premises.
