The German-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EKONID) successfully held on Tuesday, June 13, a Business Conference on Construction Machinery & Building Material Plants as part of a German trade mission to Indonesia to help bridge companies from both countries in establishing business relations.
Supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic and Climate Change (BMWK), the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA), the Indonesian Assocation of Heavy Equipment Dealers (PAABI), and the Indonesian Builders Assocation (GAPENSI), the event garnered considerable interest from over 80 individuals and representatives coming from different companies operating across Indonesia.
The welcoming speech was delivered by the Executive Director of EKONID Mr. Jan R枚nnfeld, who expressed his gratitude for the audience鈥檚 interest for the event. Mr. R枚nnfeld expressed hope that the conference could help build strong connection between German and Indonesian business stakeholders, particularly in the construction sector.
The next remarks came from Ms. Silvia Halim, Deputy of Facilities and Infrastructure of the New Capital City Authority (OIKN), who elaborated investment opportunities open for German companies in the New Capital City (IKN) Nusantara project. These opportunities range from various types of tax incentives to the permissibility of land ownership and job opportunities for foreigners, as well as the provision of houses for foreign investors to live in while they monitor their project.
The event went on with an introduction session of the trends within the field of construction and building material plants. Mr. Erik Irawan Suganda from GAPENSI and Mr. Etot Listyono from PAABI each showcased the market situation for the construction business in Indonesia. From the German side, Mr. Sebastian Popp, who represents VDMA and the Construction Machinery and Building Material Plants Association, explained the recent developments in Germany鈥檚 construction industry and the benefits German technologies can offer especially in helping companies meet their Environmental, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) goals.
Subsequently, the event was followed by technical presentation sessions whereby the delegates from Germany鈥檚 construction companies elaborated on their products. The German delegation consisted of six companies: Walter Foeckersperger GmbH, BOMAG APAC Pte. Ltd, Dynapac GmbH, Ammann Singapore Pte. Ltd, Beumer Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd, and KHD Humboldt Wedag.
鈥淲e are happy that this (event) can take place. All of our (VDMA) member companies are pretty excited about the Indonesian market which has a lot of potential. I think it was a very successful conference, good crowd, and very interesting presentations,鈥 Mr. Popp said.
Mr. Listyono also delivered his appreciation for the event, saying that it opened opportunities for Germany鈥檚 advanced construction technologies to contribute more to Indonesia intensive development efforts.

At the end of the conference, EKONID facilitated B2B meeting sessions to assist the delegates and the participating Indonesian companies in exploring potential business cooperations. The closing session of the conference was carried out with great enthusiasm by the participants, during which all the delegates were asked for their counsel by the participating Indonesian company representatives.
