GII 2nd info session draws over 150 participants

The second info session of the Green Infrastructure Initiative (GII) drew over 150 participants, signaling a continued strong interest towards green infrastructure projects in Indonesia. 

Organized by EKONID, in coordination with the Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (KADIN), the second GII info session was an opportunity for companies working towards sustainable solutions to collaborate on some of the most important infrastructure projects in Indonesia.  

These projects include the Integrated Citarum Wastewater Management project in West Java worth 264 million euros, the Low Carbon Tourism Destination Development for the areas of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan in Bali worth 185 million euros, and the Surabaya-Bangkalan Autonomous Railrapid Transit in Central Java worth 216 million euros, among others. 

鈥淭he green infrastructure initiative, which is a five-year financial cooperation facility of up to EUR 2.5 billion鈥痶o support environmentally and/or climate-relevant infrastructure projects, will hopefully give a significant impact on the environmental issues that Indonesia is facing such as flooding landfills, insufficient water infrastructure, and better, more sustainable public transport,鈥 said Mr. Jan R枚nnfeld, Managing Director of EKONID in his opening speech at the event. 

As previously reported, the Green Infrastructure Initiative (GII)鈥痺as agreed as part of the Indonesian-German bilateral Governmental Negotiations in Berlin on October 1, 2019.鈥疶he Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI) and the Committee for the Acceleration of Priority Infrastructure Delivery (KPPIP)鈥痺ere mandated to coordinate and accelerate the planning and implementation of priority infrastructure projects.  

As many as 15 projects have been approved for pre-feasibility studies within the framework of the German-Indonesian Green Infrastructure Initiative (GII). The approval of the 15 projects is one of six resolutions passed at the second session of the GII Steering Committee, which was held virtually on February 10, 2022. 

Other eminent speakers at the second info session are the Chairman of KADIN Arsjad Rajid; Assistant Deputy for Watershed Management and Natural Resource Coordinatin at the CMMAI Dr. Mochamed S. Nugrahadi; and Counsellor of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy Jakarta Oliver Hoppe; and Deputy Chairman of Infrastructure at KADIN Insannul Kamil. Furthermore, the event also saw representatives from each of the regional governments where the projects are being developed discuss about the business potential of these projects.
