Online Roundtable Session on Omnibus Law on Job Creation

14.12.2020

EKONID, in cooperation with the Ministry of manpower held an online Legal Roundtable on the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, specifically on the revisions of laws concerning Human Resources.

On December 10, 2020, EKONID, in cooperation with the Ministry of Manpower, held an Online Legal Roundtable on the subject of the Omnibus Law, specifically on the Manpower cluster. It was the first Online Roundtable held by the Ministry of Manpower with a foreign chamber.

Indonesia passed the Omnibus Law on Job Creation on October 5, 2020. The law amends dozens of laws and over a thousand articles that covers the whole spectrum of doing business in Indonesia, from spatial layout to government administration. The law aims to improve the Ease of Doing Business in Indonesia and boost the national investment climate by amending overlapping laws and/or regulations that are deemed to be obstructive towards foreign investments. The law covers a wide breadth of subjects. These subjects are further categorized into several clusters, including the cluster on Human Resources.

While the law itself has been passed, the government must still issue implementing regulations or PP before the law can be fully enacted. Within the Manpower cluster of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, four PPs are being prepared 鈥 three of which are to be issued sometime this December, according to Mr. Sanusi Anwar, Secretary General at the Ministry of Manpower who was also the keynote speaker in EKONID鈥檚 Legal Roundtable on Wednesday.

鈥淭he fourth regulation, which in on wages, will take more time for us to issue as it completely changes the formulation and we have to be very careful with the formula,鈥 Mr. Anwar said.

More than 35 company representatives and individuals from Indonesia and abroad attended the online Legal Roundtable, many of whom were given opportunities to question Mr. Sanusi directly or through his assistants in clarifying their many questions that have surfaced since the Omnibus Law on Job Creation was passed. EKONID would like to thank Mr. Sanusi Anwar for his willingness in taking the speakership position in the event and to all the participants for their assistance in making the event a success.
