EKONID completed the second phase of its campaign to promote sustainable solutions to waste management in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, the results of which will be used as basis for recommendations.
EKONID completed the second phase of its efforts to promote sustainable solutions to waste management by utilizing German technology. During this second phase, which was conducted in an eight-day period from July 22-30, EKONID analyzed the waste composition of the city鈥檚 landfill. The result will provide the basis for a technical concept for the processing of municipal waste.
This effort is a follow up to EKONID鈥檚 initial visit to Banjarmasin in June, during which an initial assessment of the city鈥檚 waste management problem was made. Furthermore, together with EKONID鈥檚 partners, Lambung Mangkurat University in Banjarmasin and the Banjarmasin Central Waste Bank, EKONID kickstarted a waste separation initiative designed to optimize the production of compost to increase quality and quantity. This compost shall be sold by the waste bank, with which EKONID is also providing ongoing support to turn it into the largest vegetable market in the city.
This project is part of the German government鈥檚 initiative 鈥淓nvironmental Protection Made in Germany鈥�, which is overseen by the German Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety [BMU]. The initiative aims to promote the worldwide application of technology-based waste management solutions, especially in developing and emerging countries.
During the third phase, which will be held sometime in September, EKONID will present the result of the waste composition analysis 鈥� which is being conducted by BlackForest Solutions GmbH 鈥� to the Banjarmasin city administration, as well as the relevant recommendations.
