The B20 Sustainability 4.0 Awards Night was successfully held at Grand Hyatt Hotel Jakarta on October 18, 2022. Organized by SwissCham Indonesia as an official side event of the Indonesian B20 Summit, the awards are aimed at incentivizing and growing sustainability initiatives among companies based in Indonesia. In addition, the event was also expected to strengthen European-Indonesian collaboration and private partnerships. Along with KADIN Indonesia and EuroCham as co-organizers, the four European chambers in Indonesia 鈥 BritCham, EKONID, IBAI, and IFCCI 鈥 took part as official partners of this joint European-Indonesian project.
Out of the 700 applications submitted on May 17, more than 200 sustainable project proposals from large companies and MSMEs passed the qualification process. Out of these 200 proposals, 18 went on through to the final evaluation phase on September 30.
This large number of participants demonstrates the awareness of business actors in Indonesia on the importance of implementing sustainability aspects in their line of operations as, not only are these projects beneficial for the environment and their corporate reputation, the sustainable practices implemented can also help companies become more resilient and attract investments. This is in line with the Indonesian G20 Presidency鈥檚 three main pillars 鈥 Promoting Productivity; Increase Resilience and Stability; and Ensuring Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.
In harmony with these pillar, the B20 Sustainability 4.0 Awards also focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as reflected in the award categories, namely: Improving Access to Clean Water (SDG6); Reduction or Reuse of Plastics (SDG12), and Women Leading in Sustainability Initiative (SDG5).
For the first category, Komodo Water (MSME), Green Energy (MSME), and Danone (corporate) came out as the winners. Meanwhile, Sampangan (MSME), Plana (MSME), and Lazada Logistics (corporate) took the second category. In the third category, the winners were Du Anyam (MSME), Sukkha Citta (MSME), and Amartha (corporate).
Additionally, awards for three special categories were handed out to a number of esteemed companies. The first, Investment in Clean Energy Award, was given to PT AKR Corporindo, Tbk. Second, Innovation Towards Clean Energy Award, was awarded to PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur, Tbk. The third category, Community Engagement in Developing Clean Energy Award, was given to PT Barito Pacific, Tbk.
During the event, each Zurich Insurance Group and Siemens also awarded a scholarship for a Master鈥檚 Degree in Sustainability at Trisakti University.
Chairwoman of B20 Indonesia, Mrs. Shinta W. Kamdani, said that this awarding event was special because it also involved MSMEs. 鈥淲e are not only giving awards to big companies but also to MSMEs because there are so many small and medium-sized companies that innovate and follow the sustainability aspects but receive less attention,鈥 said Mrs. Kamdani, as quoted by Antara.
By appreciating innovative and sustainable projects from small and big business players, it is hoped that the B20 Sustainability 4.0 Awards can inspire more businesses to contribute to achieving a sustainable, resilient economy.
