The Government of DKI Jakarta and the City of Berlin signed a Joint Declaration on Innovation and Technology on September 7, 2023, at the Jakarta Future City Hub in Gambir, Central Jakarta.
Ms. Sri Haryati, Undersecretary for Economic Affairs and Finance at DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, inked the commitment together with Ms. Franziska Giffey, Berlin Mayor and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Public Enterprises.
The signed document is expected to further boost the two cities' cooperation on business innovation and technology, particularly in supporting the role of Jakarta Future City Hub as a platform for sustainable ecosystem growth, which was built within the cooperation framework of Jakarta and Berlin.
"And this place today (Jakarta Future City Hub) is not only a final point for the cooperation during the last years. It is a starting point for further cooperation," Ms. Giffey said during her speech at the ceremony.
Ms. Giffey also noted that Jakarta and Berlin would soon mark 30 years of relations, and that the signed declaration served as a commitment for the strengthening of both cities' collaboration in the future.
"We will all celebrate our 30th anniversary next year. And this, today, is a sign of our support for the next few years to make cooperation work and to do what is important to do," Ms. Giffey added.
Ms. Sri Haryati outlined the cooperation of Jakarta with Berlin as crucial and beneficial for both Indonesia and Germany.
"I would like to reiterate the importance of the relationship between our two cities. Our cooperation is crucial for the purpose of our nation and to build mutual understanding between us," Ms. Haryati said.
The Jakarta Future City Hub is a collaborative effort between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the City of Berlin under the auspices of a program called Smart Change funded by the European Union. The working space was inaugurated in October 2022 by Anies Baswedan, who was then the Governor of DKI Jakarta.
The project was initiated to overcome challenges and provide sustainability solutions in Jakarta, especially to empower an inclusive and digital entrepreneurial ecosystem that supports entrepreneurs, the government, and society.
To afford its goals, this hub is intended to provide a one-stop-shop for startups, founders, and innovators to conduct business events; to create a meeting point for innovation and cross-sectoral collaboration; to give local entrepreneurs access to international connections in Berlin and other cities; and to provide a discussion platform between the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta and startup innovators.
