Lufthansa German Airlines, the leading airline in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, is making a concerted effort to make flying even more efficient, sustainable and attractive via innovations. By 2020, Lufthansa Group sees an investment of 500 million euros in digitalisation and innovation, as stated by a recent press release received by SOROTAN. Other than utilising the most modern fleet to serve its customers, Lufthansa also continuously strives to improve its customers’ journey using digitalised and innovative products – from pre-flight to post-flight – offering a complete travel experience that anticipates and meets the customers’ needs.
“It is Lufthansa’s goal to be the pioneer of digitalisation and innovation in the aviation industry. With this, the entire Lufthansa long-haul fleet are now equipped with FlyNet®. Lufthansa’s Wi-Fi service onboard that allows you to stay connected even when you are up in the air. Whether you want to surf for fun or would prefer to spend your time onboard working, Lufthansa FlyNet® creates the ideal conditions for you,” as quoted from the press release.
Another unique product is the Lufthansa FlyingLab, which redefines the future of travel by conducting online conferences in the sky at 30,000 feet. Inflight conferences make it possible for travellers to get the most out of their time in the air by watching presentations of interesting and innovative topics live by speakers onboard.
Currently, Lufthansa offers almost 5400 weekly frequencies to 202 destinations in 76 countries worldwide via the two world-class hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. In Asia-Pacific, Lufthansa has 20 destinations in 8 countries, offering more than 182 weekly frequencies connecting Asia-Pacific and Europe. The two Asian Hubs Singapore and Bangkok connect Indonesia with Europe and the rest of the world on a daily basis. As of summer 2019, Lufthansa airlines will also offer a daily service between Munich and Bangkok other than the six times weekly connection between the Bavarian Hub and Singapore. Flights from Singapore and Bangkok to the German financial Metropole Frankfurt are offered every day of the week.
On many of these routes, Lufthansa deploys its flagship A380 and in February this year, Lufthansa chose Delhi as the maiden destination for the Airbus A350-900 debut, the latest addition in our fleet. And since March 2018, Lufthansa offers the route between Munich and Singapore again and it is available five times a week operating with the A350-900. The A350-900 is the world’s most modern and environmentally-friendly long-haul aircraft. It consumes 25 percent less kerosene, produces 25 percent fewer emissions and is considerably quieter at start and take-off than comparable aircraft types. The first of 15 aircraft has been based in Munich since February. The A350-900 offers space for 293 passengers: 48 guests in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy Class and 224 in Economy Class.
All these efforts paid off as Lufthansa won the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Award 2018 as Best European Airline in Asia Pacific. The market research institute Skytrax, which specialises in aviation, surveyed around 18 million passengers from over 160 countries worldwide. In addition to that, Lufthansa also won the award of the Best Airline in Western Europe as well as the award Best First Class Lounge Dining.
