Background | With 300 member companies the German Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association is one of the largest industry-specific associations within the VDMA (German Engineering Federation). The Association is the communication and information platform for its members and provide comprehensive support in their day-to-day work. It puts a strong focus on foreign markets, technology and standardization, guidelines and legislation, trade fairs and symposia. The food processing and packaging machinery industry belongs to the Top 4 mechanical engineering sectors in Germany. 2018 the turnover amounted to more than 15 billion Euros. The mainly medium sized and family owned companies deliver their machines and equipment into more than 100 countries. Thus the export ratio of the branch is 86 percent on average. Germany is the uncontested number 1 exporter of food processing and packaging machinery in the world with a market share of 23 percent. In some subsectors the market shares are even higher: e.g. 35 percent of all internationally traded confectionery machines and 30 percent of packaging machines have their origin in Germany. The VDMA represents the interests of 3,200 companies and is thus the largest industry association in Europe. With a turnover of 212 bn. € (2018), the capital goods industry is one of the leading industry sectors in Germany and the largest industrial employer with a workforce of 1,005,000 employees (2018). The VDMA is divided into 37 trade associations and working groups, cross-sector departments, branch offices in Berlin and Brussels, liaison offices in Brazil, China, India, Japan and Russia. |
